di i want to suggest two books shyaad aap jaaanti hi hogi. My years with Boss at Gemini Studios by Ashokamitran and Shammi kapoor the game changer by Rauf ahmed. the first book is really really interesting.
I’ve seen the Shammi Kapoor book in stores, but the tackiness of the cover has put me off buying it. The other book I haven’t heard of, but I’ll look out for it. Thanks for the recommendation.
Di the book is really really interesting and informative. there was a chapter from this book in our 12th class main book Flamingo. sharing the link. http://www.ncert.nic.in/ncerts/l/lefl106.pdf
sorry di ! poet and the pancakes is the name of the chapter book Flamingo class 12th CBSE. di if you search Poet and the pancakes. you may get the chapter under the heading chapter 06 Final on second page of google.
Yes we had that chapter too, unfortunately that was deleted from our syllabus for year 2016 but while turning pages in boredom I saw “Gemini Studios” written on a page and read that chapter twice. Though that didn’t fetch me marks but everything should not be done for marks. I liked this chapter and “The Rattrap” too.

Missed this thread of comments because I was having trouble with my net connection yesterday. Thanks for telling me the name of the chapter, crazyforclassic. Will try to see if I can find it.

I created this account on wordpress 1 month ago and wanted to write something. After much procastination I wrote the above. Please do comment how is it and your valuable suggestions are most welcome. I will not be able to write anymore till next 6-7 months as I am going to college hostel for joining first year bachelor’s course, I would write when I return after first sem. . I would like to hear from you about how to write and how good or bad is what I wrote.
Yes! Much more interesting. :-) Actually, studies have revealed (and this I know from my years of training and work in instructional design) that unrelieved blocks of text tend to turn off viewers. That’s why short paragraphs, images, embedded videos, etc are a good way to provide respite.
Cheers, and catch up with you later. Ping me when you’re back after 6 months and have started posting again!
Hi, was just wondering, have you read Shammi Kapoor: The Game Changer by Rauf Ahmed? I just re-read your review of Ashok Kumar’s biography, and your mention of how the subject seemed to have been viewed through rose-tinted glasses reminded me of this book – which was the complete opposite in that aspect. The writing clearly comes from a place of love and admiration, but at the same time acknowledges that he is, after all, a human with shades of grey, instead of deifying or even idolising him.
Besides this, there are also detailed stories of various co-actors and important figures in his life – the author even managed to get a snippet from a rather unwilling Ameeta! The book, to me, seemed easy to understand yet engaging – not a detailed song list like, for example, the Lata Mangeshkar book. It captures Shammi’s entire life – and even goes a little beyond – and it left me with more than a lump in the throat. Would love to know whether you’ve read, and what you thought of it if so!
WordPress had sent this comment into spam, and I only just saw this.
I haven’t read the biography, though I’ve seen it around. The main reason I was wary was that I have read too many very hagiographical bios to risk another! Also, because I am absolutely not interested in the personal lives of famous personalities – and that, I think, is something a lot of people seem to want to know about, especially in the case of film stars. But if you recommend this one so highly, I will put it on my list. Thank you!

I’ll look out for it. Thanks for the recommendation. Sadly, so few regional language films are available with subtitles. It’s very frustrating!

Please watch ‘Sairat’ too. It has subtitles and is great movie. Looking forward for another awesome review by you!

Which year is that? And is it Kannada too? A Google search only throws up references to a 2016 Marathi film…
